Mark Birk

Ameren Missouri Senior Vice President Customer and Power Operations
Mark Birk is senior vice president, Customer and Power Operations. He is responsible for the engineering, construction, operations and maintenance of Ameren Missouri's electric and gas distribution systems as well as non-nuclear generation and energy management.

Prior to assuming this position, he had served as senior vice president, Corporate Safety, Planning and Operations Oversight since 2015; senior vice president, Corporate Planning and Business Risk Management since 2012, vice president of Power Operations since September 2004, vice president of Ameren Energy since August 2003, and general manager of Energy Delivery Technical Services since October 2001.

Birk began his career with Union Electric (now known as Ameren Missouri) in 1986 as an assistant engineer after earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla. From 1986 to 1989, he worked as an assistant engineer in the nuclear division.

In 1989, he joined the company’s Meramec Plant, where he was named engineer in 1990. In 1996, he was named power supply supervisor in the Energy Supply Operations Function, where he held a series of successively higher positions - moving to manager of the function in 2000 and then to general manager of Energy Delivery Technical Services in 2001. In 2009 Birk earned a master's degree in business administration from Washington University in St. Louis.

Birk currently sits on the boards of the St. Louis Community College Foundation and Downtown STL.
