Payment Agreements

If you owe for past due service, you may have the opportunity to make an arrangement with Ameren Illinois and avoid disconnection of your utility service. Our online payment assistance tool provides eligible payment assistance options based on your account status. If you are a residential customer, you may be allowed to make fixed monthly payments along with the regular bill in order to pay off the past due balance. A payment may be required to activate a payment agreement. If you only need a few extra days, contact us for a short term extension. 

  

Frequently Asked Questions

From April 1 - November 30, a payment of 25% of the amount past due is required, unless you have qualified for Low Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP).

LIHEAP qualified customers may be required to pay 20% of the amount past due.

From December 1 - March 31, a payment of 10% of the amount past due is required to set up a payment agreement.
Yes, the payment agreement will default if you don't pay on time or if you don't pay both the full amount of the installment and the full amount of the current bill. Your bill will tell you the total amount to pay each month in order to keep the payment agreement going.
If you default either by paying late or failing to pay the full installment and current charges, then your account can be subject to disconnection again after we send you a notice.
Yes, as long as your service has not been disconnected you can reinstate the payment agreement by paying the total amount of the installments and current charges that are due up to the current date. Reinstatement puts your account back on the agreement you originally made.
A line item on your bill will show the amount remaining on your payment agreement, as well as the number of installments remaining.

If you return to the Payment Assistance application, you will be provided with the amount remaining on your payment agreement, as well as the number of installments remaining.
If you are a residential customer, you may be allowed to re-activate your previous payment agreement and make monthly payments on your deferred balance. A payment may be required to reinstate the payment agreement. This option may not be available if your account has been disconnected for non-payment.
Yes, in fact, averaging the yearly cost of your bills may be a good way to help you plan how much you will likely have to pay each month - avoiding the peaks that come with seasonal changes. Your billing statements will include the total of your Budget Billing amount and your payment agreement installment.

If your account is currently on a Short Term Extension, you may be eligible to set up a payment agreement; however, once the payment agreement becomes active, the Short Term Extension will be cancelled.
If you move to a new location within our service territory, the payment agreement will transfer to your new account and continue without interruption.

If you do not start a new account with us, the payment agreement will bill out with your final bill.
In certain circumstances, Ameren Illinois will be better able to assist you by speaking directly with the account holder.
If you are currently disconnected, you may be required to pay your entire past due balance to have service restored.
