Smart Meters. Smart Energy.

Convenience. Choice. Control.

Smart options to fit your life.

Common Questions

We are practicing preventative safety measures as advised by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state and local authorities. Your safety is our priority. Our installers will only report to work if they are feeling healthy. While at your home, installers will practice social distancing measures as recommended by the CDC, including staying 6 feet away from customers.
Our next generation of smart meters work through two-way communication between the meter and our upgraded network. The meters can “talk” to us electronically -- and we can “talk” back to them -- giving you improved reliability, faster outage response, and the convenience of evaluating and managing your energy usage online or through our mobile app.
20 years ago, Ameren Missouri installed Automated Meter Reading (AMR) meters for all customers, however these meters are reaching the end of their lifespan. The Smart Energy Plan includes provisions for upgrading the energy network and all meters to Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) to build the next generation energy delivery system.

If your meter has a yellow, blue or green label with the words "Type FOCUS AXRe," or "Type E650 S4x," you have an upgraded smart meter.

Smart meters enable wireless, two-way communication that will allow us to pinpoint and solve outages sooner and provide near-real-time energy usage information to help customers better manage their energy habits and potentially save on their bill. The meters also enable us to offer expanded rate options, including Off-Peak/On-Peak rates that give customers the power to choose a rate that fits their lifestyle. Customers will have more convenience, choice and control.
We plan to install the network and smart meters for all residential and business electric and gas customers in our service territory. Electric customers will receive an upgraded meter, while gas customers will only need an upgrade to their communications module.
Customers with an upgraded smart meter can choose from a suite of rate options including our new Off-Peak/On-Peak (TOU) rates. These rates offer the opportunity to save on your bill if you can shift your energy usage to off-peak hours.
