Electric Choice
Customers today have more energy supply options than ever — choices that could reduce their energy supply costs.
Your Supply Options
Options for Ameren Illinois electric customers include a third-party supplier, government aggregation, and hourly pricing basic generation service (default option). Ameren Illinois does not recommend one supply option over another, but we do encourage customers to explore all of their options. No matter your choice, you can count on us to deliver the safe, reliable energy you need. As an energy delivery company, Ameren Illinois does not profit from electric or natural gas supply charges. We pass along the price we pay for energy to our customers, dollar for dollar.

For customers who don t choose another option, Ameren Illinois will provide energy at a fixed price* through our Basic Generation Service (BGS) rate. BGS is available to residential and small commercial customers with electric demands less than 150 kW.

As an energy delivery company, Ameren Illinois does not profit from BGS charges. We pass along the price we pay for electricity to our customers dollar-for-dollar, with no markup. Rates for this default supply option represent the wholesale price obtained by Ameren Illinois through the Illinois Power Agency (IPA), an independent state agency. The IPA buys power on our behalf annually through an independently managed and state-monitored auction. To view the current breakdown of the BGS source of supply,  click here.

* Rates vary during summer vs. non-summer periods.

Electric customers have the right to choose a third-party supplier to provide electricity – and we’re okay with that. Alternate suppliers Lay offer different pricing options and services that could lower your energy supply costs,
